  1. Schwartz’s prose style tends to be informal but erudite. There’s an argument to be made for his most striking contribution being to prose writing (and the essay as much as the short story) even more than to poetry. I’m not sure about that, but these pieces (some of which were previously published in Vaudeville For A Princess often demonstrate the best of his prose.
