  1. Nena Jover Kelty writes with great affection about her years working in an act with her brother, Rafe, and father Tommy Jover, in English music halls in the 1940s. I must confess a certain proprietary connection to this book. Nena is a member of a writers’ group I belong to, and setting modesty aside, I suggested the title she finally used for the book, “My Father Was Carmen Miranda,” which refers to the fact that in part of their act Tommy Jover worked in drag, dressed up like Carmen Miranda–
