  1. This book consists of a translation and an interpretation of a case report that Goldstein found in an archive in France. In interpreting the case Goldstien first describes many features of the social and political context in which it occurs and then uses the ideas of Foucault and Freud to explain certain significant details of the case. It is, on the whole, an admirable example of what historians can do to use gems found in archives to bring the past to life.
